Artist's Comments

This is an actual scene from the movie.
It's the part where Master Splinter introduces the turtles to April.
It didnt come out as good as I wanted it to.
Its too plain.
I wanted to try my hand at a realistic portrait with color pencils.
Since I never did it before, I tried something simple.
Donatello is my favorite turtle.

EDIT:

WOW I never expected to get a DD.
I had no idea this would be so well received.
Thank you to everyone that showed love.
And a special thanks goes out to ArtisticAunJuli for featuring this piece and GhettoDaveyHavok for recommending it in the first place.

Donatello :TMNT Movie: by ~TanookiNuri. From the suggester: He may not like how it turned out, but I think he did a pretty impressive job with the choice of colors to define Donatello. It may look simple, but simplicity can be wonderful as well. (Suggested by ~GhettoDaveyHavok and Featured by ^ArtisticAunJuli)

prismacolor is that way to go everytime...I am so sick of people and thier goddamn cg work.(sick of it because people flock to that stuff and end up over looking the hand-made goodness...it pisses me off)

ugh...it's another freaking cg movie where they look all cartoony and jump like frogs....I am so dissapointed.I guess they were going for the old-cartoon feel, but the best TMNT was the ones in the first two movies...it was fantastic work.I had just recntly watched them for the first time in seven years and I still have the same opinion about it....sorry for the rambling, lol!

i saw the trailer for the new movie. when i was readin about it, they said they went in the cg direction because its somewhere the series has yet to go. they should have let pixar do it because their movies have so much detail. i feel you on the whole "cg work gets all the attention thing" and its like, theres people who do traditional work that looks about as good as cg work. but it always gets over looked.

I just disagree with the whole CG movie thing all together...it's getting really played, there are a shrinking need for actual artists in the industry and it's really sad.making TMNT a cg movie is still not being original, and it just goes to show that Hollywood is bone-dry on ideas.Don't get me started on that, lol!

I know what you mean dude, just look at this piece...it's almost photo-quality and it should be getting so much more attention, but people just go for the OH-SO CLICHED pics of half naked anime chick with angel wings done in.....waht else,CG. I was a photoshop junkie back in the day and got back into it recentley and I find that hand made stuff is much more satisfying. But I am trying to bulid myself up on this site, so I am using it as a stepping stone of sorts. But stil, I hate doing it.

To me it seems like it takes a little time to learn. I would like to learn it because I do want to be a cartoonist later on in life. I dont know how the new tmnt movie is gonna turn out but I kno im gonna see it anyway simply because its turtles. I grew up off of those characters. CG art is overated. I uploaded this picture about 30 minutes ago so I dont even know how much attention it will get. I like traditional medias tho. Anybody can learn to do cg. Drawing is not as easy I dont think.

I agree with you.Anyone with half a brain cell and bullshit thier way through a photoshop document and come out with a 'masterpiece' in about twenty minutes, it's pathetic.

I grew up with them too, them and the X-Men cartoons.Though, I think the classics should be left as they are.Look at Square-Enix.How many times are they gonna release Final Fantasy 7? They have totally ruined that game for me.I can't play it anymore.

We'll see, I am curious to see how that pic will pan out with the massess, so I added you to my favs list. (that and the rest of your work is amazing)I am old school myself, so I can totally agree with where your coming from when it comes to traditional drawings...

I appreciate the add. Thanks. I want to do more old skool characters. My all time favorites is mario bros, sonic, tmnt and megaman. I could never get into final fantasy tho. I have watched it get watered down over time as well. I prefer 80's cartoons over most of the ones on tv now.

same here.Vintage all the way.I remember how cool it was to to play the original TMNT games on the nes....those were some great times. That was back in the day when games had balls and were not just all eye candy. My fav old school game was Mega Man X I remember getting that one a birthday gift when I was 10,that game is gold.Tv in general today blows, I can't watch any of it, It's so dry and uninspired, and the cartoons today all they are trying to do is rip off the Japanses, who originally ripped off of us.So where the hell is the sense in that?Oh wait......shit I forgot, there is money to be made,of course.I konw my style of art suggests that I am doing the same thing, but I am not in the art business for money...I am in it because I love it.
